Atlona has expanded its Omega Series with a new Omega 2 range built on HDBaseT 3.0. The line-up adds extenders, a wall plate transmitter and a 4x2 presentation switcher.

The products are aimed at meeting rooms, classrooms and lecture halls, where users want to connect laptops and peripherals over a single cable and installers want less equipment behind displays.

Omega 2 includes the AT-OME2-E2311 transmitter, AT-OME2-D2311 receiver, AT-OME2-E2321-WP wall plate transmitter and AT-OME2-R2742 switcher with Dante audio. Across the range, the products can carry uncompressed 4K/60 4:4:4 video, USB 2.0 data and Gigabit Ethernet over a single Cat 6A cable at distances of up to 100 metres.

The transmitter and receiver use a single HDBaseT 3.0 link for HDMI, USB 2.0 and network traffic. Supported HDR formats include Dolby Vision and HDR10+, while bi-directional power over HDBaseT allows either end to power the other.

At the display end, the receiver provides four USB ports for peripherals such as cameras, keyboards and mice. It also includes Ethernet pass-through, analogue audio de-embedding and bi-directional RS-232 for display control.

Wall plate option

The wall plate model puts HDMI and USB-C inputs into a standard two-gang format. A single USB-C connection can carry video and USB data while supplying up to 60W of charging to a connected laptop.

Front-panel buttons handle input selection and display power, and RS-232 is available for local control. The unit is intended for spaces such as classrooms and lecture halls, where it can send content from a lectern PC to a projector or flat panel while handling USB links for devices including document cameras and touch displays.

Switcher focus

The AT-OME2-R2742 switcher adds two HDMI and two USB-C inputs, two HDMI outputs and an HDBaseT 3.0 output that mirrors the second display to a remote screen up to 100 metres away. Its USB-C ports can provide up to 145W of power, configured as either 100W plus 45W or 60W plus 60W.

The switcher also includes a 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 backplane and four USB 3.2 ports for devices such as conferencing cameras and speakerphones. Built-in features include Dante audio input and output, scaling, EDID management, MST and automatic input switching.

For IT teams, the switcher has three Ethernet ports with VLAN support and IEEE 802.1X authentication. Control options include CEC, IP, RS-232, relays and an occupancy sensor input.

The switcher is intended for uses such as dual-display meeting rooms, where one USB-C laptop can drive two independent screens using MST, and BYOD classrooms, where a local display and a second display across the room can share the same peripherals.

Ken Eagle, Chief Executive Officer of Hall Research, linked the update to demand from presenters and installers for simpler room connections and fewer hardware components.

"Omega has always been about making a room easier to use, and Omega 2 takes that further with HDBaseT 3.0," said Ken Eagle, Chief Executive Officer of Hall Research.

"Presenters want to walk in, plug in one cable and start. Integrators want fewer boxes and fewer power supplies behind the display. USB-C at the wall, power over the link and Dante in the switcher give both of them what they've been asking for," Eagle said.

The release also extends Hall Research's use of the Atlona brand in AV-over-IP, signal extension and control. Hall Research said Atlona draws on more than two decades of networked AV engineering, while the parent company operates across five AV brands covering markets including healthcare, collaboration tools, audio products and installation accessories.

The AT-OME2-E2311 transmitter and AT-OME2-D2311 receiver are available now. The wall plate transmitter and the AT-OME2-R2742 switcher are expected to ship in mid-November.
