Ericsson & Spiideo launch mobile video for remote sports venues
Ericsson, Spiideo, and Westbase.io have joined forces to bring portable, cloud-enabled sports video capture and streaming to sites lacking permanent connectivity.
Spiideo has integrated Ericsson's Cradlepoint S700 Series router into its Portable SmartCam, providing teams and event organisers with a mobile solution for broadcasting and analysis from remote or temporary venues.
Portable solution
The Portable SmartCam, developed by Spiideo, is a fully automated camera that tracks play and sends footage directly to the cloud. The device is designed for use at sports sites without fixed infrastructure, enabling organisers to film and stream matches even at locations with no wired internet access.
Through the addition of the Cradlepoint S700 router, the SmartCam can utilise cellular networks to stream video, ensuring consistent broadcast quality and near-instant access for viewers and analysts anywhere. The integration seeks to deliver a similar experience to that of fixed installations, but with added mobility.
Remote management
The solution also incorporates Cradlepoint NetCloud Manager, which Spiideo uses to oversee and maintain the performance of deployed cameras. Support staff are able to check device health, modify settings, and address any connectivity problems remotely, aiming to provide stable performance for users wherever they are located.
Matt Thomas, Chief Sales Officer at Westbase.io, addressed the collaboration between the companies:
"This collaboration is a strong example of how the right technology, and the right partnership can transform what's possible in live sports production. By working closely with Spiideo and Ericsson to provide the Cradlepoint solution through our distribution expertise, we're enabling their Portable SmartCam to deliver reliable, high-quality live video from any location. It's a powerful demonstration of how mobile connectivity can unlock new opportunities for sports organisations at every level, and we're proud to support Spiideo alongside Ericsson in bringing professional-grade video to more teams, leagues, and venues than ever before." said Thomas.
New opportunities
Jonas Morän, Vice President of Camera Systems at Spiideo, noted the importance of portability and reliable streaming for contemporary sports organisations:
"Teams are often on the move. We needed a portable solution that could reliably stream high-resolution video to our cloud. With mobile connectivity built into the Portable SmartCam, we can now deliver our service anywhere," said Morän.
The collaboration is positioned to support Spiideo's expansion into mobile video solutions, as the demand for flexible and dependable sports broadcasting continues to grow worldwide. Sports teams, leagues, and federations often require professional-grade coverage and analysis in venues that are not equipped with permanent networks.
Expanded capability
Paul McHugh, Head of Sales EMEA Enterprise Wireless Solutions at Ericsson, emphasised the relevance of reliable streaming for remote locations:
"Spiideo's customers need dependable video streaming when they are not at their home venues. By combining the Cradlepoint S700 router with NetCloud Manager for remote support, Spiideo can offer reliable mobile solutions that work in a wide range of locations," said McHugh.
