Sinch launches service to aid FCC 911 compliance
Sinch has introduced its 911 PSAP Outage Services to help service providers comply with new FCC requirements, thus avoiding potential fines.
The service is intended to facilitate accurate and timely communication with Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), which are responsible for receiving 911 calls and dispatching responders. This communication is deemed vital to maintaining reliable emergency response frameworks.
From 15 April 2025, service providers will be required to inform affected PSAPs within 30 minutes of a 911 outage and provide regular updates until the issue is resolved. Sinch's service assists by offering updated PSAP contact information and a comprehensive notification solution, which helps providers adhere to FCC regulations without having to manage data manually or face communication delays.
When a 911 network outage occurs, PSAPs initiate contingency plans to minimise disruption, such as rerouting calls to adjacent centres or backup sites. They may use Wireless Emergency Alerts or social media to inform the public, providing alternatives for reaching emergency services. First responders are also notified to modify their protocols accordingly, and nearby PSAPs collaborate to handle the rerouted calls effectively. Timely notification is essential for enabling quick actions and maintaining operational readiness and public trust. The central focus remains on safeguarding public safety and ensuring uninterrupted emergency services, even under challenging conditions.
Chandy Ghosh, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Sinch Emergency Services, stated, "The integrity of 911 communications is non-negotiable, and Sinch is proud to offer a solution that ensures public safety while reducing the operational burden for service providers. Our services are designed to make compliance effortless, so providers can focus on what matters most—saving lives."
Sinch claims to be the only provider offering a straightforward, turnkey portal and API-based solution specifically designed to keep up-to-date with PSAP outage contacts and execute timely notifications. The company positions itself as a trusted partner for service providers, assisting in compliance while enhancing the reliability of 911 systems nationwide.
