TrueDialog has introduced a solution that enables Microsoft Teams users to activate SMS and MMS messaging on their existing Teams phone lines, removing the need for businesses to adopt separate systems or change carriers.
Single-number messaging
The update means that organisations using Microsoft Teams for voice calls can now send and receive text messages from the same phone numbers. This removes what has been described as the 'two-number problem'-where one number is used for calls and another application or tool is needed for business texting.
The approach allows companies to present a consistent point of contact for both voice and messaging, which could simplify client communications and eliminate confusion for employees handling multiple platforms.
Expanded Teams functions
The integration expands the range of functions available within Microsoft Teams. In addition to voice calling, the solution offers features such as one-to-one texting, bulk SMS and MMS messaging, keyword-based campaigns, and centralised reporting. These features are not present in Teams' native offering but have often been considered necessary for enterprise-level communications and marketing.
This move is targeted at organisations seeking more advanced messaging capabilities without the need to move away from their current Microsoft voice provider or acquire new dedicated messaging lines.
Carrier flexibility
The solution operates on the data side of the phone line, which allows voice services to remain anchored with Microsoft while activating messaging capabilities through TrueDialog. Customers do not need to port numbers or manage multiple carrier relationships to add text messaging to their workflow.
This model may reduce the operational burden and technical complexity faced by IT departments trying to align next-generation messaging tools with established voice infrastructure.
10DLC registration streamlined
TrueDialog also offers support to simplify the process of registering 10-digit long code (10DLC) numbers for messaging, which is a requirement for enterprise text traffic in the United States. The company says its process helps organisations complete registration in days rather than weeks, assisting businesses to deploy enhanced messaging features quickly.
"This is a game-changer for the thousands of businesses using Microsoft Teams as their primary voice solution. They no longer have to compromise on messaging capabilities or confuse their customers with a separate texting number. The message is simple: Keep your Teams voice numbers and instantly add enterprise-grade texting. Activate SMS and MMS on your existing lines-no new numbers, no carrier headaches," said John Wright, CEO, TrueDialog.
